University of Houston Fall 2018 Theatre Poster Series

This series of theatre posters was worked on in partnership with the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance to showcase the new season of plays. Blue Note jazz album covers served as the initial reference point for the design and is depicted through broad brushstrokes, bold colors, and large-scale type. Each poster features a uniquely hand-drawn illustration with key information displayed through use of typographic hierarchy . The scale of each illustration in contrast to the type creates a visual point of interest that viewers can then use to guide themselves through the rest of the poster. The illustrations, drawn with a rough brushstroke, employ simplified shapes and lines to abstract central themes of each play into images that offer an idea of what the story is about without giving anything away. This method allowed for a more nuanced presentation of the typical university production poster while still remaining within the brand guidelines set forth.
