Tales of an Ideologue is a set of folios intending to take a specific word and turn it into a typographic narrative; in this case, the word ‘quixotic’ was chosen based on its curious origin as an adjective specifically referring to the attributes seen in Miguel de Cervantes titular character Don Quixote de la Mancha. The colors of the Spanish flag were used for the color palette, harkening to the source material’s origins. Each folio contained the same body text and organized them in Adobe InDesign using different typographic grid models: hierarchy, scale and alignment. The modular, manuscript and deconstructed grids each used different forms to enhance or subdue particular elements, such as bringing up the intricate illustrations in the manuscript grid or focusing on the type in the deconstructed grid. Attention was given to the negative space of each typographic grid to ensure that there remained an even balance of text, illustration, and white space regardless of their position on the page.
