Obfuscation

How can technology affect the way that we interact with the world around us? This question was posed by visiting designer Richard The; students were then asked to produce a poster in response to this. The focus of this poster was on the phenomenon of Internet memes and how quickly they can be shared, distorted and ultimately subverted from their original meaning. Beginning with a screenshot from a popular video, we decided to produce this phenomenon by hand. The original screenshot was blown up, cut into pieces,  traced, scanned and re-scanned to create a wide array of images. These images were then layered together and printed on a RISO machine and subsequently scanned onto the computer. Using Illustrator, the scans were arranged in such a way that the original image was no longer recognizable, creating a new and completely separate piece of work.
