Break Free! is a minute-long video accompanying the Hello, World mobile exhibit. The goal was to inform visitors about the unknown repercussions of having an online presence, specifically in terms of algorithms. Instead of hammering viewers with data, the video used abstract shapes to simplify the concept of filter bubbles. Using 720 individually hand-drawn frames, the video’s use of color makes it easy for the viewer to understand the importance of seeking different sources of information. Type and image were combined in Adobe After Effects to emphasize the idea that engaging in social media and Internet connectivity is a modern-day fact of life but not something that should be feared. The bright soundtrack, mixed in Adobe Audition, adds a hopeful atmosphere that complements both the color palette and typography.
